Unit 1 Poem- Bang the drum

CRITICAL APPRECIATION
The song ‘Bang the drum’ is written by Bryan Adams and Nelly
Furtado. It is a tribute to the athletes who participated in the 2010
winter Olympics at Vancouver.
The song begins with an exhortation that together we can reach for
the sky. Athletes have gathered from the East and the West to
compete. Participating and playing a fair game is more important
than winning it. Each of the participants is pursuing the dream by
working hard. The author advises to make louder the banging of
the drum and the singing of the song for the whole world can hear
wherever they are. It is the appointed time to dream big and aim
high. One must believe in oneself. The author encourages to jump
higher since the whole world can see them. Again the author
advises to make louder the banging of the drum and the singing of
the song for the whole world can hear.
The song progresses in the mood of merriment. The rhyming
words add to the beauty of the poem. The refrain ‘the whole world
can hear’ sustains the energy of the song.’Little louder’ is a
repeated alliteration.’’Like the wind’ is an example of simile.
Singing louder and banging the drum louder are examples of
auditory images. The choice of words are very simple.
